STIs are on the rise.
We know that 15-29 years olds show higher rates of sexually transmitted infections and some have a significant lack of understanding about sexual health and safe behaviors. This is part of the reason why Queenslanders have the second-highest rate of chlamydia in Australia and the third-highest rate of syphilis.

We encourage young and mature adults to start talking about their sexual health and place STI testing as a normal part of their health routines. It can sometimes be an awkward topic to discuss, but we are trained to help you in getting comfortable to initiate conversations about STIs with friends and partners to reduce the stigma.

And of course, get tested and get treated.

It can be difficult to know whether something on your skin is a harmless mole, normal sun damage, or a sign of cancer. How often you should have a skin check will depend on your skin type, your age, and your risk profile for skin cancer.

The Cancer Council recommends adults self-check their skin and moles every 3 months. Those in an at-risk category should have a trained doctor examine them at least once a year.

So keep track of skin changes and if you notice any changes to your skin, have them investigated by a doctor. Our doctors offer a range of treatment options that depend on the type and severity of the case. Treatments offered are either surgical or non-surgical.

Our doctors can advise you of immunisations and provide them to adolescents, adults, pregnant mums, and at-risk groups.

The National Immunisation Program covers the cost of routine childhood immunisations recommended for all children in Australia.

Routine childhood immunisations help to protect your child against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough (pertussis), polio, pneumococcal disease, meningococcal C disease, hepatitis B, haemophilus influenza type b (Hib), rotavirus, chickenpox (varicella), measles, mumps and rubella (German measles) and influenza.

Our qualified vaccination nurses are known for taking the sting out of childhood immunisations. They have plenty of distractions and rewards, look out for them when you are in the clinic and say “Hi”. We value connecting with your children so that they become accustomed to seeing us around the clinic as a positive presence, and not just when it’s time for an injection. Our nurses are experienced with vaccinating children of all ages and can help you with catch-up programs.

Private immunisations are available at the clinic, however, they are not covered by the National immunisation program and will incur a fee. Please book an appointment with your doctor to discuss this.

CORONAVIRUS VACCINATION PROGRAM
The clinic is running regular vaccination clinics for practice patients.
Please contact the clinic on 5575 2444 for appointments.
We currently offer Pfizer and Novovax vaccinations.

You can further protect your family this year by getting your flu vaccine.

Another service we can provide is birth control implantation.
Implanon is a small device that can be inserted under the skin that slowly releases a hormone that is 99% effective at preventing pregnancy.

It can last up to 3 years and can be a simple and convenient contraceptive. Some women experience less painful or lighter periods and can be used while breastfeeding.

The Antenatal Shared Care Program involves sharing your pregnancy care between your specialist and your family doctor. It offers choice, convenience, and continuity of care for women during pregnancy.

Enjoy personalised care with your trusted family doctor for you and your family before and after your baby is born. Our doctors have received extra training and qualifications to provide shared care services.

Please ensure that you make an appointment with your doctor well in advance of travel, as some vaccinations must be given over a specific time frame (e.g. 3 or 6 months) and completed within a certain timeframe before travel.

If you know what vaccine you require, please inform the reception staff when making an appointment.

Please note that additional costs may apply for travel vaccines.

Do you know what your risk of having a heart attack or stroke is? Having a regular Heart Health Check with your GP will help you better understand your risk of a heart attack or stroke.

A Healthy Heart Check involves a 30-minute consultation with our nurses and your GP and covers discussion on health and lifestyle factors, as well as a range of tests to check your risk factors.

A diving medical assessment is necessary for anyone considering undertaking scuba diving lessons, both young and experienced divers.

The Australian Dive Medical assesses the fitness and suitability of prospective scuba divers and ensures that the medical standards for diver fitness meet the standards of Australian Standards AS 4005.1 for recreational divers, and AS/NZS 2299.1 for occupational divers.

It is a legal requirement for medical practitioners who perform diving examinations to adhere to these standards and to have had a level of training approved under the Standard.

Dr. Benjamin has completed this training and can complete your dive medical in our clinic. As part of the medical assessment, she will focus on heart, lung, and neurological health and any condition that you might have that would put you at an increased health risk while diving.

Please call to speak to one of our receptionists about booking an appointment with Dr. Leigh Exelby.

A Coal Board Medical examination is required for anyone employed or seeking employment in the coal mine industry. Coal mining companies must ensure that a health assessment is carried out for each person who is to be offered employment, or is already employed as a coal mine worker.

Some of the things the assessment will cover may include:

  • Medical history
  • Lung function test
  • Chest X-ray
  • A standard hearing test
  • Blood pressure
  • Body mass index
  • Urine analysis
  • Physical fitness test
  • Eye/vision tests including colour blindness
  • Chest X-ray
  • Drug and alcohol testing

Dr. Benjamin is available at the clinic to conduct Coal Board Medicals.

Pre-employment medical assessments provide vital information that will allow the determination of factors that may limit the applicant’s ability to safely perform their job and avoid injury.

The pre-employment medical is mutually beneficial for both the potential employee and the employer. The assessment may identify and potentially minimise the risk of someone undertaking work when they are not fit to perform that work or determine the prospective employee’s capabilities in safely and effectively performing certain tasks.

Some of the assessment options available include:

  • Medical history
  • Height weight blood pressure
  • Body mass index
  • Urinalysis
  • Hearing and vision testing including colour blindness assessment
  • Musculoskeletal assessment (we can recommend Dr Chris Soo who is also a qualified physiotherapist).
  • ECG
  • Spirometry or lung capacity testing
  • Drug and alcohol
  • Referral for pathology or radiology

Pre-employment vaccinations are also available.

Dr Benjamin, Dr Cuffe, Dr Baragry and Dr Soo are experienced in providing a detailed pre-employment assessment.
