When to call 000
If you or someone with you is having a medical emergency, call 000 straight away or go to your nearest hospital emergency department. A medical emergency includes chest pain, trouble breathing, severe bleeding, signs of a stroke such as face drooping or slurred speech, loss of consciousness, or a serious injury. Don't wait for an appointment, and don't drive yourself if you're seriously unwell.
How we can help urgently
Mermaid Central is a general practice, not an emergency department. For problems that need attention the same day but aren't life-threatening, we can often help. That includes sudden illness, infections, minor injuries, and flare-ups of a condition you already have.
We keep urgent appointments aside every day. These don't always show on the online booking system, so the quickest way to be seen is to phone the clinic on 07 5575 2444 and tell reception you need to see a doctor as soon as possible.
If you think you have an infectious illness
If you might have COVID-19 or another respiratory infection, please don't book online and don't come straight in. Phone the clinic first so we can advise you. Where COVID-19 testing is needed, this is best done at a respiratory clinic. If you're unwell, we may ask you to wear a mask in the clinic, so please bring one with you.
When we're closed
The clinic is open seven days a week, Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm and on weekends from 8am to 2pm. We're closed on Good Friday and Christmas Day. If you need medical advice when we're closed and it isn't an emergency, you can call 13 HEALTH on 13 43 25 84 to speak with a registered nurse. For an emergency at any time, call 000.

Frequently asked questions
Is Mermaid Central an emergency department?
