Support starts with a conversation

If life has felt heavy lately, talking to your GP is a good first step. You don't have to be in crisis, and you don't need the right words ready. Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral to talk to my GP about mental health?

No. You can book an appointment with your GP and raise how you're feeling.

What is a mental health treatment plan?

It's a plan you make with your GP that can give you access to Medicare-subsidised sessions with a psychologist or other mental health professional. Your GP reviews it with you over time.

Will what I say stay private?

Yes. What you discuss with your GP is confidential.

Can my GP help with both mental and physical health?

Yes. Mental and physical health are closely linked, and your GP can help with both in the one place.

What if I need help urgently?

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 000. To talk to someone right now, call Lifeline on 13 11 14. For an urgent appointment, call the clinic on 07 5575 2444.
