Antenatal shared care with your GP
Antenatal shared care lets you share your pregnancy care between your GP and your hospital or specialist. You can have many of your regular pregnancy checks here at the clinic, close to home and with a doctor you know, while the hospital looks after your scans, specialist appointments and the birth.
How shared care works
Once your pregnancy is confirmed, your GP can help you get started, including the early blood tests and the referral to your chosen hospital. Through your pregnancy, you'll have some appointments at the hospital and others with your GP, following a shared schedule. Your GP stays in touch with the hospital, so everyone caring for you has the same information.
Before and after your baby arrives
We can also help before you fall pregnant, with pre-pregnancy advice and health checks. After the birth, your GP is here for your postnatal check, your baby's health checks and immunisations, and any questions that come up as you settle in. What is antenatal shared care?
It's an arrangement where your pregnancy care is shared between your GP and your hospital or specialist. You have some appointments with each, which means care closer to home with a doctor you know.
Do I need a referral to start?
Book an appointment with one of our GPs first. Your GP can then arrange the referral to your chosen hospital.
Can I have my pregnancy checks here?
Many of your routine checks can be done at the clinic. Your scans, specialist appointments and the birth are looked after by the hospital.
Can you care for my baby after the birth?
Yes. Your GP can look after your postnatal check and your baby's health checks and immunisations.
When should I book my first appointment?
As soon as you have a positive test. Getting started early means your blood tests and hospital referral can be organised in good time.
